DUTCH INLAND NAVIGATION IS WAITING, AND THE VISCO IS FIRST IN LINE!
The Dutch roads are packed with long traffic jams every day. We are faced with a major sustainability problem for which structural solutions must be found in the coming years. These are important issues, with a simple answer - 'Transport more by water’!
Because
with 8300 ships, inland shipping transports 1 million tonnes of cargo every day in the most energy-efficient way. This amounts to more than three million containers, which means that inland waterway transport removes as many as 1.5 million lorries from the road every year. And as if that's not enough good news, there's still plenty of room on the water. Our rivers can handle seven times as many transport movements as currently take place on water.
And
the total nitrogen deposition of inland waterway transport is only 1%, while ships are jointly responsible for a transport market share of as much as 40%. Waterborne transport is therefore also of interest to shippers who are considering more sustainable solutions for transporting their goods.
By
transporting by inland waterway, shippers and freighters not only do themselves a favour (working together with a reliable and efficient transport partner), but also make an important contribution to achieving environmental and climate objectives and reducing road congestion. It's a win-win-win!
